JOB OVERVIEW

Purchasing Assistant

We are seeking a Purchasing Agent for various raw materials and parts necessary in the manufacturing process. The right candidate will be able to source new suppliers and work with outside vendors to source materials including, but not limited to sheet metal, part and inserts and tooling products.
Candidate is expected to recommend purchases based on an evaluation of total cost (purchase price, tooling, lead times, freight, etc.), product quality, process controls, capacity, and ability to provide continuous improvements.


Primary Responsibilities:

• Evaluate competitive offerings on the basis of commodity and market knowledge.
• Generates reports on purchasing activities for management.
• Reviews and publishes market information and trends pertaining to assigned commodities.
• Works with supplier to reduce overall lead-time.
• Develops and/or implements programs/processes of standardization, process improvement. Cost reduction, cost avoidance, and cost containment.
• Execute department purchasing strategy to achieve cost saving goals on assigned materials
• Document and communicate supplier performance in the areas of pricing, delivery and quality. Work with suppliers to improve poor performance.
• Develop and maintain a list of key suppliers in assigned commodity area. Identify key supplier performance metrics, monitor supplier performance and ensure corrective actions are implemented by supplier
• Review purchase requisitions for accuracy and adherence to policy. Solicit bid/proposals, prepare purchase orders and expedite material deliveries, as appropriate


Specific Skills Required:

• Must be able to understand drawings and determine the needed parts.
• Must be detail oriented to make sure parts are available to maintain schedule of manufacturing.
• Must be able to obtain quotes for parts and submit purchase orders.
• 3+ years of purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Familiar with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships.
• Familiar with Job Boss and its applications for inventory management, control and cost input controls.
