JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Bookkeeper to join our team and support our business operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, conducting regular reconciliations, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with Australian laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform weekly or monthly reconciliations of Xero file, following recommended best practices.
Investigate and resolve any discrepancies with clients promptly and accurately.
Conduct quarterly analysis of Profit and Loss (P&L) statements to identify areas of spending and provide revenue generation suggestions.
Provide financial data and insights to facilitate business planning and decision-making processes.
Occasionally communicate with stakeholders, such as the accountant, as needed.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of BAS payments in accordance with Australian laws.

Requirements:

Proven experience working as a bookkeeper for Australian businesses.
Proficiency in Xero accounting software.
Ideally, experience working with service-based businesses.
Relevant bookkeeping qualifications and certifications.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Miscellaneous:

Monthly retainer preferred; hourly rate negotiable based on experience.
Must provide references from Australian businesses.
A tertiary degree in accounting is desirable but not mandatory.

Additional Information:

The role is primarily deliverables-based rather than hourly. Therefore, we prefer a retainer arrangement to have a bookkeeper available on call to fulfill monthly, quarterly, and yearly tasks as needed. In essence, our interaction with the bookkeeper may be limited to once a month for Xero reconciliation, with additional tasks required on a quarterly or yearly basis. Additionally, occasional ad-hoc queries may arise, and the bookkeeper should be available to provide guidance and assistance as necessary. This flexibility and responsiveness are key attributes we seek in the ideal candidate.
