Webmaster / Web Manager

I'm a busy online entrepreneur that needs an ongoing experienced web manager / webmaster to handle:

• Task planning to minimise tech downtime
• Implementation of new solutions, firmware and software
• Management of day to day web and cyber security requirements
• Management of logins and user access to various platforms
• Monitoring all of our client sites for errors, bugs and attacks
• Maintain version updates and regular backups
• General web security, redundancy and webmaster best practice

You should have advanced experience across all of these tasks and provide examples of your experience.

Ultimately, both our own and our customer success rely on you as a major source of support and keeping everything running.

The client businesses I need support with include several small and medium sized businesses - but we continue to grow new businesses each year. I'm looking for someone amazing to work with me and the team for the long term.

Examples of basic setup tasks you will be required to perform:

• Setup DNS records for redirects, email, SPF, DMARC etc according to best practices
• Register sites with Google Suite and Google Search Console
• Setup hosting on shared hosting server
• Install SSL certificates
• Migrate existing websites and domains to new hosts
• Create and setup Wordpress installations ready for web development
• Implement and enforce web security best practices
• Implement website tracking through Google Tag Manager

Examples of ongoing tasks you’ll be required to perform:

• Make sure all sites are considered safe by Google and others, meaning websites all run HTTPS, have valid SSL certificates that are properly installed, there are no corrupt/malicious scripts running, etc.
• Perform regular security and performance audits
• Recommend, implement and report on performance and security updates you’ve made following best practices
• Ensure backups are made in time for all websites and databases
• Sort out email domain black listing
• Manage access to CMS/Wordpress for approved users
• Pro-actively provide insights on important upcoming changes, like Google changing its spam filters or Apple reducing ability for websites to track traffic through Safari

Examples of advanced tasks you’ll be required to perform:

• Be able to identify and fix compromised websites and domains. For example malicious scripts, rogue webpages, redirects etc. and apply solutions to prevent future breaches
• Using Google Search Console, Google Analytics and Bing Webmaster tools to make sure indexed pages are accurate and performing as expected
• Find ways to improve website performance, for example by updating scripts, images, CSS
• Identify and fix problems in MySQL databases


Pros if you:

• Have web development capabilities (primarily using Wordpress)
• If you have experience with and are able to produce and implement SEO strategies (no content production experience required)
• If you are able to work with a web developer to implement custom code like iframes, embedded tools and customer CSS rules

Absolute non-negotiables:

- Be available for part-time hours, scaled up as necessary
- Provide the highest level of assistance quickly and without fuss
- Communicate promptly with our other team members (sales, designer, content specialist, developer, accounts management and founder) using Slack each day
- Assist and support me with ad hoc tasks as required
