JOB OVERVIEW

Looking for a smart, communicative, mid to senior level programmer for a successful open source web application.

Work with two software engineers with 25 years of experience each; learn a ton about navigating legacy code bases, developing empathy for customer use cases and problems, and finding the right solution for customers and the business.

Most of the work will consist of resolving open issues on our product. Some of these will be bug fixes; others will be small features requested by customers; some will be UI improvements. We'll work with you to come to the right approach to solve the problem, then you'll work on your own to implement the solution. We're available for questions and discussing unexpected complications (these always happen!). You'll write a test case to cover each fix and create a PR which will be both automatically tested and manually QA'd to make sure it resolves the customer's problem. We'll review the PR and suggest ways to improve your approach so you get better each time.

# Your experience and qualifications:
* Graduate of a code school or at 2 years of university CS classes or self-taught with a portfolio of projects to share.
* 5+ years of experience in web development.
* Experience with Ruby on Rails would be ideal.
* Solid HTML/CSS/Javascript.
* Self-managing.
* Great communicator in written English.
* Be able to participate in a video call once a week in English at 8:00 AM Central US time.
* Be able to work independently from a long list of prioritized issues: if you’re blocked, move on to something else while waiting for help.

# Our application and team:
* Open-Source, (AGPL) application used by prominent libraries, archives and museums for making their collections more accessible. Thousands of dedicated users (mostly retirees).
* “Majestic Monolith” architecture – server-side rendering and minimal JS
* Ruby on Rails 6 application backed by MySQL/MariaDB.
* Two software engineers with 25 years of experience each.
* Communication during GMT-5/6 working hours via Slack, email and Github.
* Weekly zoom planning meetings
* We’re a small team that balances product development with sales and marketing activities. As a result, you may need to go a week or more at a time without any feedback from us, and will need to continue to be productive.
* Our values: Always Learning, Action Oriented, Humbly Confident, Service Hearted
