JOB OVERVIEW

The Medical Charge Poster is responsible for accurately documenting and posting charges for medical services provided by the healthcare facility. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that all services rendered are appropriately billed and accounted for in compliance with regulatory requirements. The incumbent will work closely with billing specialists, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of charges.

Key Responsibilities:

Review documentation from healthcare providers to identify billable services rendered to patients.
Assign appropriate billing codes to medical procedures, treatments, and services in accordance with established coding guidelines (e.g., CPT, ICD-10).
Input and post charges into the healthcare facility's billing system accurately and in a timely manner.
Verify the accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information associated with each charge.
Collaborate with billing specialists to resolve any discrepancies or coding issues that may arise during the charge posting process.
Maintain a thorough understanding of medical billing regulations and compliance standards to ensure adherence in all charge posting activities.
Perform regular audits of charge entries to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with billing regulations.
Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and administrative staff regarding charge posting procedures and updates.
Stay informed about changes in coding and billing regulations and participate in ongoing education and training as necessary.
Provide support during audits and reviews conducted by regulatory agencies or third-party payers as needed.

Qualifications:

Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or charge posting role within a healthcare setting.
Proficiency in medical coding systems such as CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10.
Familiarity with billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems; experience with billing software preferred.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations, including HIPAA and Medicare guidelines.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
