JOB OVERVIEW

We seek a seasoned Accountant or Senior Accountant to supervise general accounting operations by controlling and confirming our financial transactions. The responsibilities of the senior accountant consist of reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, and preparing month-end close procedures.

Responsibilities:
• Verify, allocate, post, and balance accounts payable and receivable.
• Make accurate accounting reports and show the findings.
• Analyze financial data and provide a status summary.
• Identify errors and recommend ways to increase productivity and expenses.
• Provide technical assistance and advice.
• Evaluate and suggest changes to accounting systems and procedures.
• Participate in the establishment of financial standards and the forecasting process.
• Contribute to the department's goal-setting process.
• Prepare financial statements and budget in accordance with the timetable.
• Assist with tax returns and audits.
• Direct both internal and external compliance audits.
• Support the monthly and annual close processes.
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies in order to maintain and improve internal controls.
• Ensure adherence to GAAP guidelines.
• Communicate with our Accounting Manager to enhance financial processes.

Qualifications:
• Experience as a senior accountant with a proven track record.
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of business trends.
• Understanding of financial accounting statements.
Knowledge of general ledger functions and month-end/annual close procedures.
• Practical knowledge of accounting software applications, such as FreshBooks, Xero and QuickBooks Desktop and Online.
• Expertise with Excel, including Vlookups and pivot tables.
• Accuracy and focus on detail.
• Ability with numbers and quantitative abilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
• Certifications that are pertinent (such as CMA or CPA) will be preferred.

Experience:
• 5+ years experience as an Accountant / Senior Accountant
• Certified Public Accountant preferred but not required
• Masters degree holder preferred but not required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working remotely for a company in the USA on US time schedule
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years working in Accounts Payable AND Accounts Receivable, General Ledger
• Experience working in the nonprofit industry is a big plus! (preferred but not required)

Skills and Technical Knowledge:

• Excellent English Language communication skills (written and spoken)
• Expert proficiency and knowledge in handling/managing General Ledger, AR, AP, and Payroll
• Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel – the ability to create and manipulate PivotTables; utilize formulas like VLOOKUP and INDEX MATCH to analyze data, and use Solver functions
• Ability to produce error-free accounting reports
• Ability to quickly learn new software programs
• To work alongside or supervise other accountants

Work Terms:
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Schedule: 8AM - 5PM EST

Salary:
• $960-$1120 per month
