I have always loved writing since I was a child. I took up English Literature and Communication in Ateneo de Manila University. I specifically chose and worked hard to get into this school because I knew this is where I'd get the best education in my chosen field. I planned on working in the film industry as a producer and a writer, and so for my thesis, I wrote a screenplay for a full-length film.
As a writer, it is integral to build my sensibility by experiencing and learning as much as I can. I read books and watch a lot of films. I have tried working graveyard shift for a call center, and I've also tried doing real estate selling high-end properties. I did not do these for long but I surely gained a lot in terms of experience and self-discovery. Now I have a more intimate knowledge of the call center culture and real estate which are two of the most prominent industries in the Philippines.
I moved on and spent a whole year (2011) working for a post-production company as a post-producer/production coordinator. Post-production is the leg of the advertising/production process where all the materials (footages, artworks, etc) are put together, enhanced, and created (for animation, graphics). As a Post-Producer/Production Coordinator, my task was, to put it simply, to manage the projects that would come in. This would entail coordinating with the clients and our own editors, making sure that the project requirements are met with the best quality and service. It was tough because in post-production, being the last in the process before the material is broadcast, unforeseen problems are inevitable and mistakes that were made in pre-production and production would have to be fixed in post-production. It was tough, yet if you love what you do, you will always find a way to keep going.
Having these experiences, I have learned organization and time management. I also learned to be resilient. Along with these, the skills I already possessed (writing, interacting, computer/technical skills) have greatly been improved.
