My name is Joseph Christian Garcia however most of the people I know call me Joey. I am from a family with a blend of Ilocano, Pangasinense, Novo Ecijano and Kapampangan race. I just turned 25 last December and I’m still single. Right now, I am working as a Technical Support Representative for Cybernet Slash Support Philippines (CSSP) which is located at McKinley Hills, Taguig City. My main support is for a router account and setting up a wireless network for small office / home office (SOHO).
Before I became a router technician, I already have knowledge of computer hardware and software. Basically I know how to build my own computer, optimizing its performance and repairing / troubleshooting it just in case something went wrong. I am a self taught computer technician, and I learned everything from the internet and through reading online blogsites about computers. I am very familiar with DOS Applications, Windows Operating Systems (98/2000/ME/XP/Vista/Seven), Microsoft or Open Office Programs, Media Editing Software (Photoshop/Fireworks/Flash), Email Clients (Outlook/Thunderbird/Seamonkey) and many others.
My knowledge of networking started when I was working as a Data Encoder for a local consultancy firm in Quezon City. I gained this is skill because my former employer assigned me to setup a router and print/backup server for the company that will allow twenty computers within the network for file and internet sharing. I was able to maintain that network for a year and a half until I resigned last January of 2010. I used my experience from that company to apply for a Technical Support position in CSSP, and fortunately they hired me.
In my first six months with CSS, they assigned me to support an antivirus software account for US clients. That time, I had a better understanding about viruses and malwares that destroy or infiltrate a computer system. I was trained for manual removal of computer viruses using remote assistance with the Team Viewer application. Moreover, I also learned how to manage the security of a computer by regularly updating the software and enhancing the firewall settings in order to avoid future damage or malware infection.
Eventually, I was regularized by the company and they decided to transfer me to a different support team. I underwent training again to support the Belkin Wireless (SOHO) Routers and Adapters. I am currently on my 9th month with Belkin and still learning new things and experiences. I must say that I had a broader knowledge now about networking and router configuration. I am glad that I was able to be with Belkin.
On the other hand, I have a long term goal to be a professional and well experienced web designer. Few years back, around 2006, I started having interest on building my own website. Although I don’t have any knowledge about HTML programming and web design, I began reading articles about it over the internet. I end up installing Microsoft Frontpage on my computer and play around with the software to design a single web page. It was hard because I have very minimum resources and I was using a dial up connection before. Little by little, I gained understanding how a website works. Apart from designing, I need to register a domain name and find a web server that will host the site. I was able to design a sample website which I called bluecometzone.eu.org which does not exist anymore because my account expired and I don’t have much time to maintain the site.
Later on 2008, while working as a data encoder, I find time to design a website again. That time, I have broadband connection and resources were everywhere. I learned about customizing your Blogger Site by editing the HTML source code of your generic template. The domain name of the site is http://www.frozensystemsolutions.co.cc and it’s still available to be viewed. I’m glad that I knew about tweaking the Blogger account because I got a free hosting service and SEO since it is powered by Google. I would say this project wasn’t easy because I’m just a beginner in HTML and there’s no graphic user interface to edit the Blogger template. I needed to manually modify the source code using word/note pad in order to embed images that I wanted for the site. I admit it’s hard however it’s also a very challenging and interesting experience.
Right now I am craving for more engaging web design projects or related ones, that will allow me to enhance, explore and share my skills. I am thinking of a freelance or a home based job for me to balance it with my current full time work as a technical support representative.
