Paralegal

During my legal internship, I was tasked to manage and draft legal documents, conduct legal research, prepare and file documents with court, take notes during legal proceedings, interview clients, and provide any other necessary assistance to the supervising lawyers.

Legal writing had been an essential part of my legal education, so I can say that I have honed this skill since my first year in law school.

The Clinical Legal Education Program of our university allowed me to experience offering free community legal aid services to the underprivileged and handling actual cases involving the same. These experiences required extensive legal research for the benefit of the clients and the community. During my legal internship, I was given tasks like preparation of motions, legal forms, and cross-examination questions which also require extensive legal research.

I have improved this skill through my experience as legal intern and through the Clinical Legal Education Program. I was tasked to interview clients so that I can assess their legal concerns, take note of their necessary personal information and their circumstances, summarize these information, and report them to the supervising lawyers. My past experience as a project commissioning engineer also helped me hone this skill. I was always communicating and meeting with the clients to make updates about the status and progress of the projects, and to accommodate their further concerns.

As a former engineer by profession, I was constantly facing challenges which require immediate solutions as my former office gave utmost importance to efficiency without sacrificing the quality of work. My legal education and internship experience also exposed me to a variety of cases and legal problems which require accurate strategies and solutions to protect the rights, liberty, and property of the clients.

I was a pro bono column writer at a local newspaper in our province for more or less two years. This experience has helped me develop my writing and research skills.
