Let me just add my 10 month experience as a Retention Specialist for an American company Altice/Optimum. I negotiated with clients who wished to cancel subscription.
With that scenario, I need to do everything to make that client stay and not leave us. On that 10 months of experience I was able to enhance my ability to establish rapport with clients also offer them all possible options available to convince the customer to stay.
