I have been working with the contact center industry here in my country for more than 5 years. I can say the ride so far is truly a blessing!
I have worked on many different kinds of accounts and campaigns. My very first job in the industry was pure sales. I did cold acquisition calls for Dish Network potential customers, offering our products and services. This job actually gave me the best training I could think of, because we have to learn to sound American as our calls may take hours just to close a sale. That being said, I am well capable of holding a good, solid conversation with a customer.
I enjoyed my second call center job equally as the first one. I was a travel assistant specialist with Hotwire.com. I helped customers search for affordable travel deals, I booked hotels, found cheap flights and reasonable car rental packages for them.
The third company I joined was a 3rd party collections firm for Nuvell - a subsidiary of GMAC. To be honest, I had no clue about collections when I started with them. This job tested my wits in customer servicing because even though we were 3rd party collectors, we had to maintain good customer experience and I figured not very many people like collectors calling them.
I joined HSBC next. They were my dream company. I have always wanted to join them since my 2nd call center job, but back then I didn't have the courage to do so until later on. It was a perfect timing, if you ask me. This is where I really strove to build myself up and improve. I joined a special email based team whose goal is to make exciting campaigns, improving the work place and making the job more easier for the employees. I also have applied to become a process trainer.
All good things do come to an end. HSBC US accounts were bought by Capital One and the only way to stay with HSBC is if I relocate, which will not be funded by the company. So, I've chosen to be absorbed by Capital One. When I was with them, I joined many outreach campaigns, blood donation and feeding programs.
The most recent company I joined is an international independent financial consultancy firm. I was a direct assistant to a wealth manager. I managed his schedules on office outlook and calendar, I did cold calls for potential investors; professional email handling, lead generation, and product research.
