Just to let you know this was my previous job , I've chosen this job because i learned a lot from it. Lets get started, May 7, 2006 is the day i applied for this job , I spoked with a Vietnamese guy and said he is not looking for a girl mechanic , he is looking for a cashier and customer service service type of gal , the thing is ,2 weeks prior apply for the job i just graduated my mechanic school so i don't know what to expect working in real world, right? Anyhow , i took the job and started right away that following Monday.
First day at work was tough because i was in an impression of my job is to do cash outs and chit chat with customers , just to tell you we don't have computer in the office , we have to do everything manually , my boss taught me how to compute the breakdowns of parts and labor + taxes ofcourse. I knew right then and there , that its not going to be an easy job . The shop is jammed mostly everyday with high call volumes as well.
After getting used to dealing with customers , answering calls , organizing my so called office , while dealing with my angry boss , I learned how to multitask , the thing is dealing with an angry boss everyday makes you wanna quit but not me i stayed til the shop was sold to a different owner . I was not only a cashier or customer serice rep , I became an all around person , I used my knowledge to advise customer about their car , tips on how to maintain a healthy car , educated them as well on preventive maintenace , and so on. I also help out changing tires , oil , checking tire pressure , I even work on my day offs just to help my boss finish cars left over the weekend. I also maintained our shop to always look clean and presentable , i fixed pot holes by mixing a cement with a shovel , trim the grass , mostly all mens job , can you imagine total of 7 men just watching me doing everything on my own , and I'm the only female at work. Truth is , it never bothered me to work with a male industry because i love what im doing and eager to learn more , I'm really grateful for this job because it taught me how to work under pressure , met different types of people , learned how to approach different races, it even boosted my self esteem. One main thing I can't never forget about this job , is what I became after working with my boss for 6 yrs.
