I started my career as an HR professional where I honed my people skills, communication skills and procedure writing skills. As an HR professional, I was involved in Recruitment, Corrective Action, Admin and Employee Relations work.
After 10 years of HR work, I decided to learn a new skill, namely Requirements Analysis (IT). I cross-trained for 1 month before I was recommended to move into a Technical Writer/Requirements Analyst position. As a TW/RA, I learned RUP, UML, created use cases, work packages and storyboards and coordinated with the PM, BA and Developers involved to ensure that all requirements are captured by the system being created. I also had to create user manuals.
In 2009, I moved to another software development company where I was hired as a Technical Writer. I monitored website content and updated text as needed. I also created user manuals for specific clients when requested by the CTO. After a few years, I was promoted to the Project Leader position where I handled at least 5 full-time work positions. It was during this time that my multi-tasking and time management skills really came to the fore. As the Project Leader, I acted as the Managing Partner's Executive Assistant (from appointment setting to travel arrangements to personal payments/concerns.)
I also managed 2 teams during this time - HR and Creatives (Graphic Designers/Web Developers). Aside from this, I also handled 1 project team and acted as Client Liaison for at least 2 clients. I also did Product Training for our company software when needed.
