Profile Description

I started working as Social Worker handling case management in an NGO catering needs of abandoned and/or neglected special needs children.
I worked with a multi-disciplinary team composed of Physical and Occupational Therapists, Special Education Teachers, Caregivers and Nutritionists and functioned as part of the Administration Office. Looking for a more direct and thorough experience in case management, I transferred to SOS Children's Village Foundation where unique approach of helping children, until they became adult, is the alternative parental care of either siblings or children who cannot be eligible for adoption.
My experience in my second home is more challenging yet fulfilling for I have to deal with children and youths with diverse orientations from their roots or from the streets.
Being part of the Pedagogical Team, the holistic approach is always of paramount consideration - from the development of basic skills and honing them with proper values, coaching and mentoring is an everyday menu of my work. Not only guiding the children and youth in their respective career path, we also trained them of basic response skills and involve them in relief operations in times of disasters. Having been part of the development and empowerment of children and community I worked with is a big difference when it comes to humanitarian efforts.
As I start my journey with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), I was exposed primarily with its longest battle against poverty...an extended help and protection for the infant and children, women, person with disabilities, families in the conflict areas, vulnerable and marginalized groups including groups who are repeatedly hit by disasters. Working in a multi-faceted and
dynamic setting in a bureaucratic setting is a big challenge, but I know, I was able to managed the course. Being in a Convergence Office of the Department, it is our core mandate to strengthen the partnership and collaborative efforts to deliver all necessary output that could produce beneficial and positive outcome to the target stakeholders.
My recent involvement to the major humanitarian effort while in the Department is my deployment at Region VIII during the aftermath of Yolanda (internationally known Haiyan). Prior to deployment I was assigned with the team to manage relief operation center where the re-packing, inventory, drop-off and dispatch of relief goods from and to are happening where the Twenty-four (24) hours duty is barely not enough for all the processes and transactions. Emergency in nature, every second really counts and a more directed and strategic decision is always required, those are aside from the physical and emotional demands in every situation.
From the relief operation center, I also undergo crash course for Stress Debriefing in preparation for deployment to the area - to learn and know the updates on emergency and coordination protocols for it will always be required once in the ground already.
I was assigned in rapid-assessment for person with disability and elder person as well as rapid assessment in the evacuation centers. Given the demand in the ground, I was also assigned in dispatching of relief goods in the port area, do escorting of relief goods to the affected areas and perform required roles to address the needs at hand.
As the transition mode from relief operations to rehabilitation efforts started, I became part of the special team to do the overall Assessment and Technical Assistance Plan (ATAP) for the rehabilitation plan of the Department. Consultation and planning for six (6) months recovery plan with the core officials of Region VIII was conducted.
Likewise, monitoring of commitments of different offices, bureaus and systems and units is being done by our team. Provision of technical assistance in relation to convergence efforts is also maintained.
