I've been working in the finance industry for 3 years now. My first job was with one of the big 4 audit firms in the Philippines. I worked there as Risk consultant, assisting clients in identifying and managing risks of their companies. Here I learned to deal with different kinds of people; from the staff who run the daily operations, to the executives who strategize for the company. Speaking and conducting risk trainings in front of the Board of Directors of big companies are just a few of my tasks back then. It was challenging, but very rewarding at the same time. I gained not only self-confidence as my English prowess was being honed, but also networks to some prominent people in various industries. I also did some extensive research to find best practice solutions for risks identified. Here I developed the attitude of being inquisitive and resourceful as I continue to challenge existing controls.
I also worked as a Treasury Analyst in an oil industry. Here we managed huge amounts of cash to fund the projects of the company. Given the inherent risk involved in my process, it made me very keen to details as we strive for accuracy. Customer satisfaction is paramount, that’s why we always give our best to meet or exceed metrics. It is also in this company where I fully understood the essence of being a team player, where personal goals are constantly aligned to corporate objectives. The continuing quest for process improvements has become embedded in our system, as we think beyond the box for ways to make the process more effective and more efficient.
Now that I'm pursuing my long time dream of becoming a lawyer, I need a job which would help me finance my studies, at the same time, a job where I can still apply my learnings in the field of accounting as well as my passion for speaking and debating.
