Achieving success is easier than maintaining success. A smart idea backed with good execution can take your business places. However, most businesses remain one-trick ponies that are prisoners of their product category or original idea. Great brands are built when innovation becomes a habit. New features, improved service, different product lines, path-breaking product ideas are what keep a brand ticking and customers engaged on a long-term basis.
Administrative experience is quite a bit different from general "clerical" duties. Administrative often invvolves you doing significant work to support often mid to senior level management. Before attempting to do an admniistrative assistant, I would look at doing something like a clerk typist, or an office assistant position. This will help you to build up more skills required to be successful in the administrative experience. Below are some of the duties that may be requested for an administrative assistant, and this will be a good yard mark to sort of gain experience of training in to become one: 1) MS OFFICE -- as an administrative assistant, you would be expected to deal with creating, drafting and editing many very complex documents such as letters, slideshows, reports, grants, proposals, contracts etc. You should have intermediate to advanced working knowledge in all MS Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook, Notes, Project, Visio and so on. 2) TRAVEL -- as an administrative assistant, you're often expected to arrange travel for mid to senior level management for conferences, training, seminars, and other events as required by them. You will be expected to arrange accommodations, flights and car rentals for them. A lot of times they will have a travel agent that will be able to assist wtih this, or with the an organization like the government they will have their own programs. You will also be responsible for creating an itinerary for the managers as well. 3) MEETINGS -- you will often be required to prepare for meetings (emails, and all of the subjects that you can find relating to that meeting), setting up the agenda, distributing materials to various participants, arranging for catering as well as for equipment such as audiovisual, and occassionally for teleconferences or videoconferencing, you will be responsible for dialing in the senior managers and introducing them to the conversation. 4) SCHEDULING -- you're often going to be responsible for keeping at least 2-3 if not more busy managers schedules including (their personal schedule, meetings, and so on). You will often have to check the mid to senior level managements emails and bring any important documents to their attentions when required, and know how to implement information when required. 5) BUDGETS/ BOOKKEEPING -- you will be either in charge of monitoring expenditures or assisting with the monitoring of expenditures and other monies such as petty cash, and purchase receipts etc. 6) TRANSCRIPTION -- you will often be responsible for typing a variety of documents from audio or dictaphone. Depending on the level of administrative assistant, you may be required to do this without someone editing it.
I've done so many things in my past clients. I used to call clients that would be interested in our renovated homes before it hits in MLS and another one, I used to call motivated home sellers and ask more informations about their house and set follow up calls with them. Another client of mine, asked me to call a buyer and get them to register their interest on our website. We would ideally love to push getting interest from Investors, for example buyers want to buy an investment property. The other type of buyer to get for us is buyers who want to by an old house and renovate it.
