Profile Description

My main programming experience is in business applications. I have 20 years of working experience with applications like Accounting, Inventory, Human Resource Management, Warehousing, Manufacturing, Product Design and Work In Process Tracking. My platform was the IBM Midrange AS400 series. I have worked continuously from 1984 thru 2003 mostly in the US. In 2003, I moved back to the Philippines and have not touched programming as a job since then. I kept up my skills in RPGIV programming
using a Baby4XX RPGIV system running on a PC/OS/2 Operating System. Lately, I can no longer use my Baby4XX because of lack of legacy hardware availability.
It was designed for the then top of the line PCs with 8086 processors and megabytes of disk space, not gigabytes. Although OS/2 was improved as far as mass storage capacity is concerned, the system just no longer can cope with the more modern machines and in fact, support for it was discontinued. It is now extinct.
And so, I started surfing the Web for development software I can use to convert my soon to be extinct RPGIV applications. I dabbled with C++, Java, MySql, Oracle and was not satisfied with how databases are handled. Cross platform application is usually required. I stumbled on FoxPro and tried my hands on it. Faster than I expected, it brought my thoughts back to IBM DB2,DBMS etc and got the hang of FoxPro in less time than I intended to spend learning it. After a couple of weeks, I started converting what I have left of my RPGIV applications and felt comfortable doing it. Additionally, I found out that FoxPro , although also an old product, is still relevant and has the flexibility to run in older machines as well as in newer ones. It can cover most applications given that there are apps still running under Win98!
I started converting my applications, a Bakery Management System, GameFowl Breeding and Conditioning System, a Pet Bird Breeding Management Software and some small stuff applications using Microsoft Foxpro 9. I found that I can simulate how the AS400 deals with databases and data entry systems. I have successfully converted AS400 DDS subfile definition and implementation and relational database concepts implemented on the AS400 F Series, which was the last I worked with. My comfort level in using Visual Fox Pro is such that I was able to implement the behavior of an RPGIV subfile using the native FoxPro Grid independent of
FoxPro constraints inherent to the Grid. With that, I can confidently say that I can write efficient business apps as may be required.
My career in data processing and programming spanned 20 years working with
companies like San Fernando Electric in San Fernando, CA,
Zenith Insurance in Encino,CA, with a brief stint for Cooper and Lines in Bermuda in behalf of Zenith Insurance. I also worked briefly for Bugle Boys in Chatsworth, CA and then lastly with Baby Togs in New York. The last two companies were garment manufacturers. I worked for Baby Togs for close to fourteen years up until they shutdown their Philippine operations.
Being now retired and doing too much of nothing, I got bored. I refuse to just sit idly by given the fact that although I am in the boondocks, I now have access to the Web and so decided to make my rest days relevant by doing what I like doing best. Programming and Business Systems Development. So for those companies/individuals who may need the services of an experienced and well seasoned programmer, I am available albeit only online. I can develop applications and submit them thru the Web. I can do conversions from RPGIV to FoxPro. I can do offsite programming for AS400s if allowed access. For PC applications, I can write your applications from scratch using Visual FoxPro only. Although I am also familiar with Java, C++,Visual Basic, MySql,
my comfort level with these languages is not as high as that with
FoxPro although they all implement Object Oriented Programming concepts. Fox Pro is more data centric and can do without interfacing with other DBMS softwares although it has the capabilities. Fox Pro just happen to be closest to what I was trained in, RPGIII and RPGIV together with CLP, DDS, DDM, DDL, all IBM language/data protocol implementations. That does not mean though that I cannot do cross platform if needed. I just would rather not. The maintenance if ever would be simpler.
So folks, here I am and ready to code. Just send me the specs or an idea of how you want your system or dockable component to work .
Fees are reasonable and negotiable depending on the scope of the project.
