I learned to code websites on my own, I learned HTML and built several websites for our sister companies around 1999. I learned PHP/MySQL around 2003, creating our company's "private portal" where sales, marketing and accounting departments posted their reports for transparency.
I started working with Joomla and Wordpress around 2009, but eventually just focused on Wordpress as it was easier to customize and maintain. It was also easier for clients/end users to maintain after we turn over the finished sites.
I sometimes visit the support forums on wordpress.org to help out other Wordpress developers -- I have found solutions to my own coding problems there, and this is my way of giving back to the community.
