Hi! My name's Joanna Carmina A. Barriga, a registered nurse by profession.
My first job experience was with TeleTech where I used to work as a customer service associate. As a CSA, it was my job to ensure that client expectations (e.g., quality service, customer satisfaction, one-call resolution, etc.) are met. I was tasked to answer our customer's questions regarding their telephone, internet, and cable bills. It was our work to explain the bill details to our customers and do order entries and a little bit of technical support with their internet connection.
After taking and passing the licensure exam for nurses however, I transferred to
SPi and been with them for over a year working as a level II copy editor. As a copy editor, I've been trained and been familiar with reference materials and sources (e.g., Merriam Webster's Dictionary, CMS, and ACS). We
review and correct the works of authors (e.g., spelling, punctuation, grammar, structure, and overall content), and at the same time, we make sure that they
conform to in-house rules so to have them ready for publishing.
We are trained to deliver the best quality of work taking into consideration the authors' preference about
their work. We are also flexible when it comes to working schedules and the nature of the job. When it comes to work schedules, we have to meet deadlines set by our client without compromising the quality of our work, and regarding the nature of the job, we both do US and UK copy editing for both books and MRWs, and we also have to deal with different topics from business, social sciences, to medical topics.
While working as a copy editor, we were also given 2 other projects. The first project involves making figure captions (from medical, mathematical, to architecture-related photographs) for the ALT TEXT project. After which, we were tasked to do the video description project. In this second project, we were to translate into writing what we can see in the specific medical videos assigned to us.
