As a previous managing proprietor of a computer shop where we offer services such as desktop publishing, word processing, Photoshop, video editing, online research and assistance in thesis writing, I have ample knowledge on the above services we used to offer at the shop. Running my own shop helped me become more detail-oriented, highly-organized and keen to learn new techniques to keep pace with the needs of the business.
For 1 year I’ve been a court mediator and to qualify as one it is required that you must have a bachelor’s degree, must be proficient in oral and written communication in English and Filipino, and must possess a good moral character. Once qualified you must complete mediation seminar-workshops and pass a written exercise to test your proficiency in oral and written communication from the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA).
As an accredited court mediator, I act as an Officer of the Court during mediation.
It is my responsibility to facilitate discussions and communications between the disputing parties. My goal is to help the parties reach an equitable settlement or compromise agreement of their differences. Once the parties arrived at an agreement, it is my duty to write down the terms of the compromise agreement or a withdrawal of the complaint or a satisfaction of claim and submit it to the trial court hence it may be approved for judgment. At times, as a mediator, we are also required to submit written explanations to the court for clarification.
In my short stint as a court mediator, I developed a high level of attentiveness and improved my analytical, problem-solving and assessment skills as well as my communication and writing skills.
Recently, I have attended a virtual assistant training conducted by The Virtual Assistant Training Center here in the Philippines. The training teaches us how to work from home using my computer and internet connection. The mentors teaches us basics in article writing, web content writing and blogging, social media, research, search engine optimization, appointment setting, wordpress, MS office, transcription, and video editing and uploading.
At the moment, I may not be an expert to these but I opt to become one as soon as possible.
