I have previously worked the larger coverage of my career as a Customer Service Associate and as a Technical Support Representative. I've spent a year and 2 months as an ESL Instructor for an online teaching school that caters to students in Korea as well as 4 months as a Submissions Representative for an American publishing company in Cebu.
Taking calls as a Customer Service Associate and as a Technical Support Representative has helped me to acquire specific skills for the job at hand such as call handling, taking ownership of the issue, and providing an immediate resolution in a friendly and efficient manner. Working under pressure has allowed me to pratice patience, flexibility, and always a strong urge to finish the job on time.
The Submissions Representative position was only slightly different from that of a Customer Service Associate. My main task was to receive materials from authors and distribute them to their respective departments. It was also my job to make sure that I personally follow up with the authors regarding the publishing progress of their books. Aside from making regular phone calls to authors, there is also a steady flow of email correspondence that need to be answered by the end of the day. Multitasking was the key factor in keeping at bay with all the stuff that need to be finished.
Working as an ESL Instructor has helped me to become more broad-minded on the different levels of learners. This has allowed me to adjust my teaching skills in accordance to the level of each student as we progress on our lessons. Being a parent myself, I understood the struggles students have in their academic life. I took care to not only make sure that the students are learning conversational English but that they have also enjoyed learning the foreign language.
