Profile Description

For more than 19 years, I have been working as a writer, editor, journalist, and researcher based in the Philippines.

For more than a decade, I worked as a journalist for a Manila-based media organization upholding press freedom, promoting responsible journalism, and encouraging journalistic excellence. I was a senior staffwriter of the said organization, reporting and writing on the news, developments, and issues that affect press freedom and journalism ethics in the Philippines. I also served as managing editor of that media organization’s flagship publication.

I was part of that organization’s information and communication technologies (ICT) team, reporting and writing media and journalism issues as well as engaging citizens and other sectors using online and social media platforms.

On the side, I have been an online writer, editor, and researcher for quite some time Upgrade to see actual info 2012, I continued my freelance writing and editing gig fromUpgrade to see actual info. Currently, I write and edit freelance top-quality articles for various clients, provide quality virtual assistance work, as well as deliver high-quality research and data entry work.

As a journalist who reports on the press, my first blog (Upgrade to see actual info) tackled news and affecting the news media and journalism from 2005 to 2009. My blog was among the first niche blogs that mostly delved into media and journalism issues in the Philippines.

In 2008, I was a recipient of the “Emerging Leaders in Asian Newsroom” Fellowship by the Asian Center for Journalism, which allowed me to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University.

The Asian Center for Journalism also awarded me a three-month grant in 2006 to study conflict and peace reporting.

In 2009, I won an Asia Media Forum Fellowship. My fellowship study analyzed the press freedom situation and the prevailing culture of impunity in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.

I graduated with a journalism degree (cum laude) from the University of the Philippines.
