WordPress Developer Contractor (Expert Level)

We are an Australian e-commerce business operating a custom-built WordPress platform, and we’re seeking an experienced, highly independent WordPress Developer to support and extend our site on an ongoing, task-based basis.
This is a senior technical role suited to someone confident working with custom WordPress architectures, legacy codebases, and new development with minimal supervision.

Engagement Type:
Contractor - 40hrs per week

Availability & Responsiveness (Important):
Must be contactable and responsive during Australian business hours (9am–5pm AEST)
Exact start/finish times can be flexible, but availability and responsiveness are essential

Responsibilities:
WordPress technical support and ongoing maintenance
Troubleshooting and resolving site issues
Working with and improving existing PHP-based implementations
Refactoring and modernising parts of the platform over time
Implementing ad-hoc feature requests and updates
Contributing to new development as required
Working within a custom WordPress architecture

Required Skills & Experience:
Please only apply if you meet the majority of the following:
Expert-level WordPress development experience
Strong PHP skills (comfortable reading, modifying, and improving existing code)
Solid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Experience working with custom themes and non-standard WordPress builds
Confident debugging and problem-solving in live environments
Ability to work independently and manage tasks without constant oversight
Minimum 3 years professional WordPress experience
(5+ years strongly preferred)

Highly Regarded (Bonus Skills):
Experience working with APIs
Familiarity with CRM integrations, automation, or third-party system integrations
Experience working with Australian or similar time-zone teams
Version control (Git)
Performance and security best practices

Pay:
USD $8/hour
Negotiable for exceptional experience
Paid hourly on a contractor basis
