We're a web design business based in Toronto, Canada, looking to expand our team with a skilled WordPress Developer & Content Specialist for long-term collaboration.
ROLE OVERVIEW
This position combines strong technical WordPress/front-end development with careful attention to detail for content implementation and website maintenance. You'll work independently most of the time due to time zone differences, with 2–3 weekly Zoo
EMPLOYMENT TYPE & AVAILABILITY
This is a contractor/subcontractor role.
We are looking for a long-term collaboration of approximately 30–40 hours per week (about 6–8 hours per day, Monday–Friday).

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
WordPress Development
Build WordPress websites using custom themes, child themes, and Elementor based on Figma designs
Create custom layouts and templates and, where needed, simple custom functionality or plugins
Front-End & Landing Pages
Build landing pages using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Ensure responsive, accessible, and performance-oriented implementations
Content & Basic On-Page Work
Upload and format content (including blog articles) following provided briefs
Prepare and optimize images for web (sizes, compression, formats) and write descriptive alt text
Maintenance & Deployment
Update WordPress plugins and themes; handle minor fixes and troubleshooting
Deploy websites on hosting accounts and configure performance tools (caching, CDN, etc.)
Monitor and improve performance (Core Web Vitals), and handle basic security and backups
Automation & Integrations
Implement and manage integrations using webhooks and APIs
Configure and maintain workflows using automation tools such as n8n, Zapier, or Make
Implement animations and micro-interactions using GSAP or similar animation libraries
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
Solid experience building WordPress sites with Elementor and/or custom themes
Ability to write semantic HTML with accessibility best practices
Strong skills in HTML, CSS/SASS, and responsive design
Good working knowledge of JavaScript (for UI interactions and custom logic)
Basic to intermediate PHP for WordPress (templates, hooks, customizations)
Comfortable working with Figma and basic image editing in Photoshop or similar tools
Experience deploying sites, configuring performance plugins, and implementing basic security
Experience with webhooks, APIs, and automation tools (e.g., n8n, Zapier, Make)
Experience with GSAP or other animation libraries (for animations and micro-interactions)
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS (NOT REQUIRED BUT A PLUS)
Experience with Crocoblock, custom post types, and dynamic content
More advanced PHP and custom plugin development
SEO knowledge (on-page SEO, technical SEO basics, schema plugins, internal linking)
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the project manager to clarify and document website requirements
Help structure pages and content for clear layout, readability, and conversions
Coordinate with designers on Figma handoffs and provide practical implementation feedback
Use appropriate tools (graphics, basic animation, plugins, etc.) to enhance user experience
Prioritize tasks, communicate blockers early, and keep work aligned with sprint goals
