ABOUT THE ROLE
Orban Labs is looking for a dependable backend-focused full-stack developer to collaborate with our team on active products and development work.

We care more about clear thinking, organization, reliability, communication, and willingness to learn than an impressive list of technologies.
- You will work primarily with Python and FastAPI while also contributing to applications built with TypeScript, React, and Next.js. - You should understand frontend development well enough to collaborate across complete systems.
- The role will begin with clearly scoped work alongside our existing development process. Continued work and greater ownership will depend on the quality, reliability, communication, and judgment you demonstrate.
- Developers who earn the team’s trust will have opportunities to take responsibility for features, technical decisions, and larger areas of project work.

HOW WE WORK
- We use Claude Code and Codex as part of our development process.
- You should be comfortable with AI-assisted development while remaining responsible for understanding, testing, reviewing, and explaining everything you deliver. AI tools are part of the workflow, but they are not a substitute for engineering judgment.

We work through:
- Clear planning before implementation
- Small, reviewable changes
- Meaningful automated tests
- Incremental Git commits
- Concise technical documentation
- Careful review of AI-generated code
- Regular communication about progress, decisions, and blockers
- Because this is a remote role, reliability matters. You must provide useful daily progress reports, respond to work messages promptly, raise blockers early, and attend scheduled meetings prepared and on time.

Technologies you may work with
- Python and FastAPI
- TypeScript and JavaScript
- React and Next.js
- REST APIs
- SQL, SQLite, and PostgreSQL
- Git and GitHub
- Azure, AWS, or similar cloud infrastructure
- Claude Code and Codex

What we expect you to know
- Building REST APIs with clear contracts, validation, and error handling
- Authentication and authorization
- Data modelling and relational databases
- Concurrent and asynchronous Python
- React and Next.js beyond the basics
- Testing and debugging production code
- Git and incremental development workflows
- Writing documentation that other developers can follow
- Reviewing and taking responsibility for AI-assisted code
- You do not need to be an expert in everything. You do need to be methodical, honest about what you know, and capable of learning without hiding behind tools.

What would set you apart
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or similar cloud infrastructure
- PostgreSQL experience
- Playwright or other automated testing tools
- CI/CD and production deployment experience
- Strong asynchronous Python knowledge
- Experience collaborating in a small remote team
- Clear examples of taking ownership after earning a team’s trust

How we evaluate
1. Applicants complete a short two-part technical challenge:
- One project completed without AI coding assistance
- One project completed using AI tools, with full prompt documentation
- We are not testing how much complexity you can produce. We are evaluating how you think, plan, communicate, write and test code, use development tools, and approach your work.
- Communication and reliability carry as much weight as technical ability. Strong code is not enough if you cannot keep a remote team informed, meet commitments, and work consistently without repeated follow-up.

How to apply
- Do not apply through the job board’s standard application process. Applications submitted through other channels will not be reviewed.
- Complete the technical challenge and submit your application through our portal:
