JOB OVERVIEW

WordPress Developer — Reverse Proxy Blog Migration
Squarespace to WordPress on WP Engine
Overview
We need an experienced WordPress developer to migrate a blog (~850 pages) from Squarespace to WordPress on WP Engine. The main website stays on Squarespace — only the blog moves. A Cloudflare Worker reverse proxy will route blog traffic (/blog/*) to WordPress while all other traffic continues to Squarespace. All existing blog URLs must remain identical after migration.
This is not a standard WordPress build. The reverse proxy routing is the core technical challenge.
Scope of Work
1. WP Engine Setup. Provision WordPress environment, configure theme, install required plugins. Set up permalink structure to match existing blog URLs exactly. The site has two URL patterns: flat slugs (/blog/post-slug) and date-based paths (/blog/2024/10/19/post-slug). Both must resolve correctly.
2. Content Migration. Export content from Squarespace (WXR format), import into WordPress. Write and run scripts to download all images from Squarespace’s CDN, upload to WordPress media library, and rewrite all image URLs in post content. Verify all 850+ post slugs match the originals.
3. Cloudflare Worker & DNS. Move domain nameservers to Cloudflare. Write and deploy a Cloudflare Worker that routes /blog/* requests to WP Engine and passes all other requests through to Squarespace. Configure proper Host headers, X-Forwarded-Proto, and SSL end-to-end.
4. WordPress Proxy Configuration. Configure ---------- p for reverse proxy operation (WP_HOME, WP_SITEURL, forwarded headers). Ensure WordPress generates correct URLs through the proxy. No redirect loops, no mixed content.
5. URL Verification & QA. Verify every migrated URL returns HTTP 200 through the proxy. Test for redirect loops, broken images, mixed content warnings, and correct canonical URLs. Deliver a QA report covering all pages.
Required Experience
• Cloudflare Workers — you’ve written and deployed them before, not just used Cloudflare for DNS
• Reverse proxy configuration — routing subdirectory traffic to a different origin server
• WP Engine hosting — familiar with their portal, domain config, caching, and SFTP/SSH access
• WordPress ---------- p for proxy setups — forwarded headers, WP_HOME vs WP_SITEURL
• Large-scale content migration — 850+ pages including scripted image re-hosting
• SSL/HTTPS configuration across proxied setups
• WP-CLI proficiency
