WordPress Developer Needed to Complete Custom Booking System (Take Over from Previous Dev)

We are looking for an experienced WordPress developer to take over an existing project from a previous developer. The project is a custom booking system built in WordPress, using custom code (not just a standard plugin setup). The core structure is already in place, but there are several important features and refinements that still need to be completed before we can go live.

Existing Work: Custom-coded booking system already partially built
Status: Project is in progress; previous developer is no longer available
Goal: Finalize and optimize the booking system so it is stable, user-friendly, and ready for production use

- Review and understand the existing codebase and architecture of the booking system
- Identify incomplete, broken, or missing features and suggest a clear plan to complete them
- Implement and finalize key booking workflows (e.g., availability checks, booking creation, confirmations, cancellations, notifications)
- Fix bugs, improve performance, and ensure code quality and security best practices
- Integrate with any existing plugins, themes, or APIs currently in use (if applicable)
- Ensure the booking system works seamlessly across desktop and mobile devices
- Provide clear documentation for the work you complete and any major changes you make
- Communicate regularly with us on progress, timelines, and any obstacles

- Strong experience with WordPress (themes, plugins, and custom development)
- Solid skills in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Proven experience working with custom-coded solutions (not just off-the-shelf plugins)
- Experience with building or maintaining booking systems, reservation systems, or similar complex workflows is a strong plus
- Familiarity with MySQL and database design/debugging
- Ability to read and understand another developer’s code and refactor or extend it as needed
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Good communication skills in English and ability to provide regular updates
- Reliability and ability to estimate and meet deadlines

Experience with popular WordPress booking plugins (for reference/comparison)
Experience with payment gateway integrations (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, etc.), if applicable
Knowledge of performance optimization and security hardening in WordPress
