We are an Australian startup focused on e-bike safety education for kids and teens aged 11–17. The goal is simple. Teach real-world road safety through fun, browser-based mini-games.
This is not an AAA game role. We’re looking for someone practical, reliable, and comfortable working on an early-stage product with a limited budget and clear priorities.
What you’ll be working on
* Improving and stabilising existing web-based games
* Building new mini-games, including:
* Drag-and-drop puzzles
* Logic and sequencing challenges
* Timing and reaction-based games
* Fixing bugs and edge cases
* Ensuring games run smoothly on desktop and mobile browsers
* Working closely with the founder and platform dev team to implement clear game ideas
Tech stack
Core requirements
You should be comfortable working with:
* JavaScript
* HTML5 / CSS
* Canvas-based rendering
* A JavaScript 2D game framework such as Phaser
* Integrating games into a React-based web app
Nice to have
Experience with any of the following is helpful, but not required:
* Pixi.js or Pixi-React for performant 2D rendering
* Next.js or similar frameworks, mainly to understand how games sit within a larger platform
* Basic optimisation for mobile browsers
Future-facing, not required
We may explore these later as the platform evolves:
* Three.js or React Three Fiber for light 3D or interactive scenes
* Simple physics libraries such as Cannon.js, only where genuinely useful
You don’t need experience with everything listed. Strong fundamentals and the ability to learn matter more than ticking every box.
Who this role is for
* A mid to mid-senior level game developer, not an agency
* Someone who enjoys building simple, polished games
* Comfortable working with an existing codebase
* Clear communicator who asks questions early
* Looking for steady part-time work with potential to grow long-term
Hours and budget
* Part-time to start, around 10–20 hours per week
* Flexible schedule
* Bootstrapped budget, so rates need to be realistic for an early-stage startup
* Opportunity to increase hours and responsibility as the business grows
Nice to have
* Experience building educational or casual web games
* Familiarity with mobile browser performance
* Interest in working on a product for teens
How to apply
Please include:
* A short intro about yourself
* Links to 1–3 relevant projects or games
* Your hourly rate
* Your weekly availability
Screening question (required):
Describe a simple browser-based game you’ve built or would enjoy building. What made it work well?
Applications without an answer to the screening question will not be considered.
Thanks,
Paul
