Senior Backend PHP Engineer (API-First)

We’re hiring a Senior Backend PHP Engineer to design and build the scalable backend of a global ecommerce platform. You’ll lead API development, modernize legacy systems, and drive technical excellence across the engineering team.

What You’ll Do

- Design and maintain high-performance REST/GraphQL APIs for a headless platform
- Own backend services end-to-end (architecture ? deployment)
- Lead backend modernization with a pragmatic, API-first approach
- Mentor developers and promote clean, scalable code practices
- Collaborate with product and frontend teams to translate business goals into technical solutions
- Advocate best practices (OpenAPI, CI/CD, automated testing)

Requirements

- 6+ years backend development experience with strong PHP expertise
- Deep experience with PHP 8+ and modern frameworks (e.g., Symfony)
- Strong API design experience (REST or GraphQL)
- Solid MySQL/MariaDB knowledge and performance optimization skills
- Experience with Git and Agile methodologies
- Comfortable using AI tools to improve development efficiency

Nice to Have

- Ecommerce or high-traffic platform experience
- AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes
- Experience with async systems (e.g., Pub/Sub, SQS)
