Researcher - Advanced Methodologies, Cross-Domain Scientific Research, and Fluent Writing

Better, an innovative social impact organization that researches and develops methods to improve people's lives and society at large, is searching for a highly talented and multi-functional Researcher with the potential to be promoted to Research Lead or Head of Research.

The Researcher should be highly intelligent and capable of learning new skills and domains. We are looking for someone who is exceptional at developing novel frameworks and methodologies, conducting scientific and online research, utilizing critical thinking (for instance, to determine the true answers beyond what first appears on Google Search), and writing in sophisticated yet approachable English. Skills in performing literature reviews and meta analyses, running research studies, and publishing well-written articles online are a plus, but specific prior experience and knowledge is not required—we are hiring for significant future potential.

Example conceptual work includes developing a novel methodology to help people better identify what is true when doing research and Googling things online, creating a framework to compare the efficacy of various life improvement interventions against each other (potentially utilizing sophisticated metrics like QALYs, quality adjusted life years, also see comparative effectiveness research), and continually updating and improving a database of the highest impact life improvement interventions that will be leveraged by Better's real-world initiatives.

Example research work includes identifying the optimal dosage of various supplements, running psychology studies on Amazon Mechanical Turk, evaluating and recommending productivity software, tools, and programs, and comparing credit cards and investment funds against each other.
