JOB OVERVIEW

About Us

Sue Pelland Designs creates beautiful appliqué quilting patterns, digital courses, and membership programs that help quilters of all skill levels fall in love with appliqué! Our business combines creativity, precision, and education — and we’re looking for a talented Virtual Assistant who shares our passion for design, clarity, and detail.

You’ll work closely with Sue and Janie to update and reformat our sewing pattern collection using Adobe InDesign, help redesign the visual look of our pattern covers, and maintain consistency across our growing library of quilting projects.

Responsibilities

Convert existing sewing pattern PDFs into a new Adobe InDesign template.

Maintain consistent typography, layout, and branding across all pattern documents.

Collaborate with Janie and Sue to redesign pattern covers, ensuring they reflect our updated brand aesthetic.

Assist in logo refresh and overall visual branding updates as needed.

Format written instructions, diagrams, and photos to ensure a professional, easy-to-follow layout.

Edit and proofread content to improve clarity, consistency, and accuracy (technical writing/editing experience is a plus).

Prepare final print-ready PDFs and web-friendly versions of each pattern.

Maintain organized file systems in Google Drive or Dropbox for easy access and version control.

Communicate clearly and regularly via email and project management tools (e.g., Asana)

Requirements:

Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).

Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign (required).

Experience with graphic design and layout for print (brochures, catalogs, or craft patterns a plus).

Technical writing or editing experience is a plus — you’ll be working with detailed sewing pattern instructions.

Eye for design, color, and detail — you enjoy making things beautiful and easy to understand.

Basic familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop for light image editing (preferred).

Ability to follow templates and style guides precisely while contributing creative input.

Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Reliable internet connection and ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.

Sewing or quilting knowledge is not required, but an appreciation for crafts is welcome!

Preferred (Bonus) Skills

Experience designing sewing, quilting, or craft patterns.

Knowledge of Canva for quick mockups and marketing images.

Light branding or logo design experience.
