JOB OVERVIEW

Scriptwriter / Producer – Military Documentary YouTube Channel

We’re expanding our YouTube channel Outer Side and looking for a producer–scriptwriter who can turn breaking defense news and complex military technology into clear, cinematic, documentary-style scripts.

Outer Side focuses on , geography, and geopolitics, we are trying to include more military videos .

In this role, you’ll research current events using video references and OSINT sources, build clear outlines quickly, and write with an authoritative voice that remains conversational and easy for viewers to follow.

Responsibilities

Research & production

Collect reference material from videos and open-source sources such as official statements, news footage, briefings, and verified social media posts. Compile these into organized source packs with timestamps and notes.

Write documentary-style scripts

Create ~3,000-word scripts designed for professional narration. Scripts should use active voice, maintain an expert yet accessible tone, and stay focused without unnecessary filler.

Simplify complex military systems

Explain advanced defense systems and tactics (for example CIWS/SeaWiz, AEGIS, carrier flight operations, weapons platforms, and tactical maneuvers) in a clear and understandable way while maintaining technical accuracy.

Cover current conflicts

Turn rapidly developing military events into clear and engaging narratives. Examples include Ukraine strikes on Russian supply lines, maritime interdictions, or emerging defense developments.

Pitch and outline ideas

Propose strong angles, outlines, titles, and thumbnail concepts designed to maximize viewer engagement, retention, and click-through rate.

Quality expectations:
• fully fact-checked research
• original writing (no AI-generated final drafts)
• strong structure and pacing
• compelling hooks designed to maintain viewer attention

?

Required Background

Military experience is strongly preferred, especially from the Navy or Air Force.

• Strong research discipline and news judgment
• Ability to evaluate multiple sources and distinguish confirmed information from speculation
• Experience working with Google Docs, Slack, and Notion

• Communication primarily through Slack

Workflow tools include:
• Google Docs for scriptwriting
