Backend Developer (Python & React/Next.js)

About the role
We're looking for a Backend Developer to join Orban Labs. Junior profiles are welcome; what matters most is that you're organized, methodical, and genuinely eager to learn. You'll work with Python (FastAPI), TypeScript, React, and Next.js, mostly building and maintaining backend services, but you need to understand the frontend well enough to design APIs that actually work for it.

AI-assisted development is part of our workflow. We use AI coding tools under strict methodologies, not as a shortcut but as a disciplined practice. You should be open to this way of working.

What we expect you to know

Designing and building REST APIs: clean contracts, proper validation, solid error handling
Auth flows (authentication & authorization)
Data modeling and persistence (database or file-based storage)
Writing concurrent/async Python without breaking things
React and Next.js beyond the basics
Testing your own code and debugging production issues
Writing clear documentation that other humans can follow
What would set you apart

Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS or similar)
Exposure to distributed systems or end-to-end system design
A feel for performance: knowing when to optimize and when not to
How we evaluate
You'll complete a short two-part technical challenge: one project built entirely by hand, one built with AI tools (with full prompt documentation). We're not testing complexity; we're testing how you think, plan, communicate, and work.
