We are a post-production studio located in New York City. We are looking for freelancing closed captioner / transcribers.
GENERAL CRITERIA: Proofreading/editing experience necessary. Broadcast captioning experience a must. Skills should include good judgment, problem solving ability, and an engaged and creative attitude.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Generating high-quality broadcast caption/subtitle files in a timely manner, either from scratch or working with a transcript or script, using Softel Swift nonlinear captioning software and/or MacCaption.
Transcribe audio accurately at 50 words per minute or faster
Research and confirm spellings of specialized terminology and proper names using Internet and/or phone, and document research
Review captioned/Subtitled programs (your own and others’) for accuracy, synchronization of captions/subtitles with audio, completeness, and screen placement.
Flag profanity present in audio Troubleshoot problems with and fix errors in caption and subtitle files
Maintain appropriate efficiency and quality scores
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Familiar with closed caption tools such as MacCaption, Softel Swift. - Vast knowledge of closed captioning regulations
Excellent command of English grammar and spelling
Exceptional organization, time management, and communication skills
Typing speed of at least 50 wpm, daily for approximately 7 hours
Familiarity with technology, including Microsoft Office and a variety of nonlinear video players
Ability and eagerness to learn
Comfortable with being self-directed and focused on a single project

Required education:
Bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism or related fields
