Summit Communities is an eighteen-year-old, Denver-based business that manages apartment buildings on behalf of our investors. We work hard to deliver a quality resident experience in the form of clean, well maintained and positive communities, and to provide superior management services to the building owners in the form of accurate detail, low vacancy, and strong financial performance. We are looking for a Fullt-Time Controller to lead our accounting team. The Controller is vital to our business operations. Our customers count on us to have accurate and timely accounting in place for all the properties, to collect rent and other income thoroughly and efficiently, to track and manage expenses accurately, and to provide key reporting information so the properties can be effectively managed within an asset portfolio. Our tenants rely on us to know what they paid when, what they owe, to be fair and to communicate with ---------- short, accounting is a huge part of what we do, and this position is key in our company.
Job Overview
This is a full time, true Controller-level position, in which the Controller provides oversight of the accounting function and produces accurate financials and reporting across the portfolio. Office hours are flexible..
The Controller oversees our accounting function and acts as a business partner and advisor to property management, leasing, maintenance and business development teammates on all accounting-related matters. The Controller ensures that monthly property accounting is timely and accurate by reviewing and completing bank reconciliations and finalizing monthly financial statements, and that Summit Community corporate accounting is timely and accurate. They lead internal and external financial reporting to our owner customers, including acquisition and disposition accounting for the properties. The Controller will prepare an annual budget and ensure that billings and income-generating activities are accurate and optimized. The Controller coaches and mentors our accounting team and is comfortable communicating directly with executives, building owners, tenants, and vendors.
Specific duties include
-Ensuring timely and accurate accounting for the company.
-Ensuring systems and team are producing timely and accurate accounting for each property.
-Defining and directing processes and operations to ensure efficient and accurate processing of invoices, bill payment and reporting.

-Overseeing preparation of financial reports for management, investors, and banks, ensuring all reporting is completed timely, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory standards, policies and procedures, and owner requirements.
-Serving owner-customers’ information requests and reporting requirements
-Providing leadership to the property accounting team: coach and mentors tea ---------- mbers on achieving goals and developing necessary skills that drive results; identifying team goals and evaluating team progress.
-Provide support and guidance for the property management, leasing, maintenance teammates in the analysis, reconciliations, and reporting of all financial activity.
-Support Business Development by reviewing draft management agreements, analyzing the accounting implications and recommending alternatives related to various deals.
-Support Finance in financial planning and budgetary processes.
-Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
-Lead and execute a variety of special projects to improve the financial function by automating and increasing efficiencies of processes, developing training materials, and optimizing communication and reporting.
The Ideal Candidate Has
-A degree in accounting or a related field
-7+ years experience in accounting
- Experience leading the accounting function and teams
-Excellent computer skills:
1) General understanding of accounting systems, quick study
2) Excellent working knowledge of Excel
-Unwavering integrity
