JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper / Accounting Manager to manage current and historical bookkeeping for a U.S.-based company with multiple legal entities.
This role includes cleaning up past books, reconciling historical transactions, and providing accounting guidance and operational recommendations to leadership. The position will work closely with external CPAs and tax advisors and is not responsible for tax filing or legal compliance, but is expected to identify issues, propose solutions, and improve accounting processes.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable advising leadership on bookkeeping structure, controls, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Historical & Ongoing Bookkeeping
Review, reconcile, and clean up historical financial records
Identify discrepancies, missing transactions, and inconsistencies
Reconstruct prior-period books where needed
Maintain accurate subsidiary accounts and general ledger
Reconcile bank, credit card, payroll, and expense accounts

Advisory & Guidance
Provide bookkeeping and accounting guidance to leadership
Recommend improvements to chart of accounts and workflows
Flag risks, irregularities, or gaps in financial records
Support budgeting, cash flow tracking, and management reporting
Prepare clean records for CPA review, audits, and tax filings

Systems & Controls
Improve bookkeeping policies, procedures, and documentation
Ensure consistent accounting treatment across multiple entities
Maintain organized financial documentation and audit trails

Required Skills & Qualifications
5+ years bookkeeping or accounting management experience
Strong understanding of accounting principles (accrual vs cash)
Advanced experience with QuickBooks or similar software
Experience cleaning up and reconstructing past books
Ability to explain financial issues clearly to non-accountants
High integrity, discretion, and attention to detail
Experience working with U.S.-based companies

Bonus:
Multi-entity or GovCon / real estate experience
Prior collaboration with CPAs or audit teams

Education & Experience
Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred (not mandatory)
CPA is a plus but not required
Advisory mindset required (not just data entry)
