SQL Database Developer For Baseball Website

I'm looking to build a website that's similar to ---------- or even a site like ----------

The dataset I'd like to use is available here: ----------

I have experience building websites in Wordpress, and my preference would be to also create/maintain this site on Wordpress. If it helps, I have the pro version of ----------

This is a bit of an experiment for me in programmatic SEO, which I understand at a high level and run a business based on SEO and content strategy that's written by a team of writers.

The SQL and database portion of this is foreign to me, so you'll have to explain how it would work in common language. I do have a sense of what I'd like to create using this data, which would be some best of lists like:

- Best Third Basemen of All-Time (Pulling in sorted stats based on various offensive and defensive categories so we could say the best by career batting average, best by home runs, as well as list hall of fame baseball players)

- Best Yankee Pitchers of All Time (pulling in data into tables sorted by common statistics such as wins, ERA, saves, etc.)
(I'd like to do the same for every team and every position)

- Player vs. Player comparisons like this: ---------- - the idea is simply to put stats of player A vs. player B in a side by side table.

One thing I don't understand about how that works is how you determine which players to compare, obviously, it's impossible to do every single player vs. every single player - which would be millions of combinations, so I'd love to work with someone who has experience in this kind of project and can also help me understand things like this better from the strategy and capability side.
