The Internal Audit is primarily responsible in reviewing the corporation’s internal controls and procedures. S/he ensures that these procedures are effective, adequate and conform to industry practices, corporate policies, regulatory guidelines and generally accepted auditing standards, or GAAS.
S/he reviews the firm’s financial reporting systems and policies to ensure that accounting reports are accurate, complete and prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, or GAAP. An audit assistant also evaluates corporate operating procedures to ensure that employees abide by laws and regulations, as well as human resources policies, when performing their duties. S/he also tests software and hardware systems to assess the risks of technological malfunction.
