Medical Technologist - Histopath Section

JOB SUMMARY AND KEY JOB RESULTS
The Medical Technologist (Histopathology) is responsible for the application of technical knowledge in Histopathology for the purpose of pathological examination of specimen from Surgical Patholgy, Cytology, and Autopsy and for instruction of the Medical Technologist interns.
Key job results include full compliance with established laboratory practice standards, on-time release of laboratory test results, and satisfied customers.

General Duties

Performs histotechniques such as embedding tissue sections, microtomy, and staining of slides for specimen from Surgical Pathology, Cytology, and Autopsy
Participates in the training of Medical Technology interns
Performs clerical and secretarial functions
Maintains and keeps the Histopathology area and facilities

Specific Duties
Receives and logs-in the specimen and records the accession number properly and explicitly
Ensures the completeness of the specimen collected from the Operating Room, Delivery Room, Out-Patient Departments and other institutions including the corresponding requests, charges and adequacy of fixative used
Assists the Pathology Resident or In-House Pathologist in the gross examination of the specimen and ensures that all tissue sections are loaded completely and tallied from the gross examination
Encodes patient’s data and gross description for Surgical Pathology, Fluid Cytology, and Pap’s smear
Forwards the official report to different departments and offices of the hospital in the absence of the Intern
Receives telephone calls and responds to the queries regarding Histopathology results

Files microscopic slides and paraffin blocks, Surgical and Cytology reports, Autopsy protocols, official communications, and other records of the sections
Processes Cytology specimen and prepares the stains and reagents routinely needed. Consequently, he is responsible teaching how to process and prepare such
Perform other related functions as may be assigned by the superior

Educational Qualification

· BS Medical Technology graduate

· Licensed/board passer
