Head of Design

Exciting news has become available at Australia's largest on-demand design agency. We're on the hunt for someone to fill the seat of the Head of Design.


The Head of Design is responsible for fostering and growing design talent and ensuring our clients get design excellence. They're real people who like to lead others to succeed. The HOD is responsible for building the 55 KNOTS brand through effective brand and promotional campaigns that persuade, excite and build brand loyalty amongst our clients. You will work directly with the Founder, get a chance to work with progressive thinkers from the marketing department to help shape the brand together as a team and manage the whole design department.


At 55 KNOTS, the Head of Design is comfortable wearing many hats. They're a coach, a designer, strategist, art director, client liaison, and work well with various stakeholders.


As the Head of Design, you'll:



Build our brand in new ways. This role will collaborate with the marketing team and create captivating content for 55 KNOTS.
Create engaging assets and ads that follow marketing and advertising best practices to capture our target audience
Elevate the effectiveness and business impact of our paid, earned and owned media channels, focusing on our website, email, content and social media marketing through creative designs.
Coach and develop the core skills of our creative team through workshops, mentoring and recommending courses to management for team training.
Transform our design studio into a high performing agency
Work with clients by providing art direction on how to creatively use designs and grow their partnership with us.And check all work for quality and assess them against the client’s briefs and brand guidelines to ensure we deliver to design & marketing best practices.
Work closely with the Creative Director and Founder to execute creative ideas and design excellence.

We're looking for someone who:


Has 8+ Years design experience in either agencies or company side
Has 3+ Years leading a design team
Proven experience pushing the limit in design
Proven capability pitching and influencing at a higher level
Come with a graphic/digital design background
Be a supportive inspirational leader that will empower & come up with monthly community-building initiatives for the designers
Has experience working on web, motion, digital, print, paid ads, and social media—enough to guide the Design Team Leads.
An ambitious, self-driven and highly motivated individual who can work well in a startup VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) / fast-paced environment.
Exceptional English communicator. Strong and effective communicator with good presentation and speaking skills who can verbally and visually articulate their point of view clearly and succinctly.
Must be able to actively participate in meetings with the Leadership Team and contribute unique perspectives and values.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and inspire mid-level managers to drive company growth.
Ability to create strategies, implement them, track performance, and achieve set objectives.
Advertising experience is a plus!
