Computer Program to be Built

We have a large database & search process that is used on a daily ---------- arching within cells of Excel is difficult - especially if we want to highlight certain words vs. entire cells. We need color coding and automation. And we need it to be ---------- doesn't have to be pretty (although that would be fun) but it does need to work every single day.

I've envisioning a computer program that hasn't been built before. Something that can be used on Mac + PC. Something that will require little to no maintenance. And something that can be modified on an adhoc basis by our team (we will need to remove & add data within it on a daily basis).

I know creating something that will work for us is possible BUT I am a start-up company and need it to make financial sense for us to move from Excel into a proprietary system/program.
