JOB DESCRIPTION::
Managing, optimizing, and configuring up to 4 client networks ranging from cryptocurrency nodes to stock and crypto trading platforms. You will be working directly with the CTO to help offload some of his client workload so he can focus on more business related things.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Your daily duties may include the following requests and technologies:

• Experimenting with and setting up cryptocurrency nodes/clients that provide RPC access so a team of developers can interact with the node via simple JSON RPC/API calls. This usually involves reading through documentation and downloading the source code from github OR downloading a precompiled set of binary files and setting it up to run as a systemd service with RPC/API enabled in the conf (config) files for the software.

• Organizing and taking detailed notes on how to setup new cryptocurrency nodes, how to connect to it via CURL POST/GET and possibly writing a bash script to setup/install and/or update the node to the latest version. Examples would be Bitcoin node, Ethereum node, Cardano node. We would most likely give you test servers to experiment with and once you have the scripts finished, our CTO will deploy the code to a production environment for the client to use.

• Kubernetes and/or Docker: Our main client is looking into migrating to Kubernetes apps so you will be researching this and helping us set it up. The current apps run on PHP/NGINX/MYSQL using either Laravel or Drupal.

• Linux Tuning (Ubuntu 18 mostly)
• • Keeping the server packages up to date using apt-get
• • Sifting through /var/logs /etc/ configs looking for ways to optimize system latency
• • Checking error logs for issues and researching if they can be fixed or reduced.
• • Managing a few systemd scripts for services running on the server.
• • Tweaking sysctl.conf settings to turn network performance
• • Tweaking Nginx configs including setting up rate limiting rules
• • Configuring vhosts and or proxies using nginx
• • Tweaking PHP ini settings

• Mysql 8 we are currently running on a managed mysql service that provides the management of the mysql service for us but we would hope that you can help us improve SLOW MYSQL QUERIES by running EXPLAIN ANALYZE and figuring out a better way to write the query.

• Building honeypots: review our apps/access logs for patterns that can be used to try and honeypot or catch potential attackers and bots and then capture their IP addresses to be sent to a block list.

• Writing basic PHP, Bash, Shell scripts for managing server issues/data
Examples might be doing backups and sending them to Amazon S3
Or writing a script to send some custo ---------- trics to our Grafana charts.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES WE MANAGE:
• Redis (config improvements) researching ways to improve latency
• Grafana and/or NewRelic sifting through system charts looking for issues and researching ways to improve network latency between servers.
• UFW/Cloudflare basic firewall rules; blocking/allowing IPs/Ports. We might look into automating some changes to Cloudflare firewalls like blocking bad IPs that are showing up in the nginx/php access logs.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• English: everything we do is in English. Being able to document and comment your steps including writing overviews and summaries of how things work in english will be required.

OPTIONAL EXPERIENCE:
• MongoDB: one of our platform stores technical metrics and other data in mongodb. Being able to look into and troubleshoot slowness on this database server would be helpful.
• Python: we will be starting to use more python scripts in the ---------- t a requirement but could be helpful.
• AWS (Amazon Web Services): One of our clients uses AWS. We dont expect you to be an expert in AWS but it would be helpful if you know how to navigate around the GUI and configure a thing or two in EC2/S3.
• A background or interest in any of the following is suggested but not required: finance, economics, statistics, math, markets, stocks, ---------- ITIAL TASKS ONCE HIRED (one time jobs):
• Looking into setting up a Bitcoin lightning node, Cardano node, and Tron node
• Beginning to look into migrating our first app to a Kubernetes cluster

RECURRING TASKS (ongoing job duties): Each week ...
• Work with the CTO on improving all the systems
• Update server packages especially security updates
• Review and upgrade crypto nodes that have new version releases available
• Look into logs and configs to try and improve latency and load times across various services.
• Monitoring services and fixing alerts that trigger.

TOOLS WE USE:

Platforms …
• Digital Ocean (droplets, mysql, kubernetes, load balancers)
• AWS (EC2, S3)
• Cloudflare (DNS and Firewalls)

Apps / PHP ...
• Docker (soon)
• Laravel
• Phalcon
• Composer

Monitoring …
• Grafana w/ basic prometheus setup; Netdata sends metric to our panels
• Digital Ocean Alerts
• UptimeRobot
• NewRelic (we have an account but not much is in use yet)

Linux …
• Curl (for testing API calls)
• Systemd (to run laravel jobs and code as services)
• Crons
• Git/Github: To maintain copy of code
• Confluence and/or Google Docs (for documentation)

Services / Data ...
• cryptocurrency nodes
• nginx / PHP
• mongodb
• mysql
