SportsBook Developer Role

The Role

We are building out a legal sports book that doesn’t involve users wagering any of their own money. We will deposit a certain amount of play money in their account for free each week, and they can cash out real money if they reach a certain threshold.

This role is more back-end focused though it could leak over into the front-end at times.


The Tech

We are using cutting edge tech: none of our technology stack is more than a few years old.

React (Next.js)
Serverless functions to execute our back-end code (Next.js)
Prisma as our ORM ( ---------- )
Postgres as our database - right now it’s hosted on Heroku but we’ll likely be moving to MySQL on PlanetScale soon because of its alignment with our serverless infrastructure.
Redis for caching via Upstash

It’s not necessary for you to have experience with all of these technologies by any means but we do require:
Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL or Postgres)
Firm grasp of Javascript in general, especially on the back-end.
Redis experience
5 years experience as a software engineer
Strong english comprehension

Nice to have:
Sports betting experience
React knowledge
Serverless experience and knowledge of the edge cases.

More Info

We are looking for someone willing to work at least 20 hours a week to start and could evolve into a full-time role.

Ideally we are able to overlap in our work times. I’m in the Eastern Time Zone in the US. I’m a front-end developer / UX designer, and we’ll likely need to pair program some of the time.
