Weekend Sports Writers Needed

Claire Entertainment Inc. is a growing content network based in New York City delivering entertainment, lifestyle and sports news to an audience of 4 million people in the United States every month. CE operates Enstarz and Sportsworldnews and aims to take entertainment news to unchartered levels of enjoyment, importance and interactivity across its multiple platforms (Web, mobile, apps and video).

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, Web-savvy weekend sports reporters/writers for SportsWorldNews.com who will research and write content, while meeting daily deadlines and goals. A vast knowledge of all sports (especially U.S. teams) is mandatory. Candidates must be timely when delivering news stories and write compelling, socially shareable articles that will inform/entertain readers and drive traffic. Writers will work Thursday through Sunday to bring the best, most engaging content to light.


Writers should be able to cover the following beats, as they relate to sports:
- News (domestic and international)
- Celebrity
- Trends in sports
- Major sporting events
- Action sports (including skateboarding, motocross and BMX)
- International sports (including rugby, cycling and cricket)
- Social media
- Rumors/Gossip
- Viral videos
- Gaming
- Tech
- Fashions
- TV shows


Requirements for Weekend Sports Reporters/Writers:
- Must be able to work Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- Journalism, communications or related degree; previous experience for an online or print publication
- Extensive knowledge on all mainstream U.S. teams and international and action sports
- Social media proficiency
- Good attitude; ability to handle constructive criticism
- Creative thinker; ability to effectively uncover unique angles and present new ideas
- AP Style knowledge; SEO skills a plus
- Mastery of the English language
- Impeccable news sense and an eye for trending topics; extensive sports and pop culture knowledge
- Solid writing, research and reporting skills
- Flawless copy editing and proofreading skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office


Responsibilities:
- Write quickly and accurately in a high-pressure newsroom to produce popular stories that drive traffic to the site
- Brainstorm ideas with the editorial team and chase after emerging trends on the Web and social media networks
- Work efficiently to meet daily traffic goals
- Write compelling SEO-friendly headlines
- Report relevant news content in your own voice
