JOB OVERVIEW

The managing editor will play a critical role in building the Claire Entertainment editorial team in the Philippines.

This person in this position will organize/manage editorial operations in the Philippines and execute the editorial directives and strategy of the CEO and Editorial Director who are based in the United States. The ideal candidate is smart, motivated and can easily handle a telecommuting staff with ease while maintaining regular communication with teams in separate time zones.

This job requires a conscientious, detail-oriented individual with strong HR capabilities, exceptional editing skills, the ability to manage multiple projects at once, a confident editorial hand, and the sharpest copyediting, proofreading, and organizational skills. The managing editor will be responsible for maintaining the consistent quality of editorial content coming out of the Philippines by ensuring the content produced for the site is clear, entertaining, informative, compelling and accurate.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in online writing, SEO best practices, content management systems and social media strategy. The managing editor will manage the social media for the content produced in the Philippines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Recruit, evaluate, hire and train freelance writers, editors and copy editors in the Philippines for Enstars.com and SportsWorldNews.com
• Provide high-level editorial development and leadership in terms of delegations, deadlines, checking/correcting work, intra-team communications, work schedules; manage research/writing/editing/production schedules/deadlines.
• Monitors work, maintains standards, arranges to have work covered during vacation
• Copyedit text for style, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and accuracy as needed
• Manage editorial calendar, strategy and content; maintain budget
• Work closely and collaboratively with Editorial Director to keep on schedule and develop improved workflows and procedures
• Enhance SEO performance; ensure SEO friendly display is used at all times
• Maintains the highest level of journalistic standards
• Monitor Website performance through Google Analytics
• Promote stories via social media

SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Superior editing, writing, and copyediting skills; knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style and AP
• Ability to handle multiple projects within tight deadlines with utmost attention to detail
• Excellent problem-solving, organization and time-management skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to set priorities under pressure; exhibits good judgment; takes initiative
• Ability to manage, mentor, and train staff, oversee their work with a focus on maintaining best practices and high standards
• Flexible and adaptable to changing digital workflows and procedures
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word (especially Track Changes), Excel, and PowerPoint and CMS
• Passion for and knowledge of pop culture and lifestyle content
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and Google Analytics
• Familiarity with all major social networks + experience managing social networks on behalf of a news organization
• Basic understanding of HTML

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• At least five years of comprehensive editorial experience as a managing editor/copy chief at a magazine or Web site
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
• A college degree (required) in English, journalism, communications, or related field.

• Frequently communicates with internal and external coworkers.
• Frequently monitors the Web to create documents and communicate with the team.
