Superstar Wordpress Plugin Developer

We are looking for a Wordpress Plugin Developer who will be responsible for the ongoing development of new wordpress plugins

Key outputs include developing 4-5 complete plugins per month, including supporting documentation, developing product improvements and providing tech support to our userbase, (support is handled via Zendesk) and performing associated bug fixes

We are looking for an awesome and dependable PHP developer, who is also very comfortable with front-end coding and with SQL. The role involves being a key part of our development team and will involve direct working with the CEO, CTO as well as other developers.

This is a hands-on role and the plugin developer will have a minimum 3 years of experience. Preference will be given to workers able to work to a GMT timezone, however we require results more than anything so for the right candidate they will be able to pick their own hours of work with a focus on hitting deadlines rather than hours served.

The chosen candidate will have a solid understanding of modern JavaScript and object-oriented PHP and be able to maintain, improve and extend our current business/software portfolio. We are not looking for someone who just wants to work on the tasks we provide. We are looking for someone who is willing and able to suggest plugin ideas, improvements and help us continue our rapid growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Working as part of a small team, the senior developer will be involved with:

• New coding for new features and also improving our existing ones
• Working with web services/APIs across our range of applications.
• Developing new features/plugins
• Study and fix reported bugs
• Ongoing system maintenance and optimization
• Testing new website code prior to deployment
• Handling source code in Github/Bitbucket
• Gathering requirements, estimating projects, and performing approved tasks
• Communicating with our userbase on technical support issues
• Project management and team/project management (with sufficient experience)

This person also needs to be a great communicator who can explain technical issues to non-technical people, who writes clean, maintainable, secure, performant code and can come up with smart feature ideas. They should have experience of working with large code-bases and they need to be comfortable on the command line.

Essential Skills/Knowledge

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Flexibility regarding changing priorities and the ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• High motivation to complete projects while working remotely
• Excellent written English so that you can complete all accompanying plugin/software documentation and good enough spoken English to be able to effectively participate in team hangouts.

Technical Skills

• WordPress API knowledge and significant WordPress experience, ideally including multisite
• PHP5, and especially knowledge of the Laravel 5 framework is a bonus.
• Good experience working with Javascript, especially, jQuery, jQuery-UI and AJAX.
• Strong background with web services and APIs.
• Good HTML5, CSS3 experience.
• Good SQL and relational database management knowledge.
• Facebook API and development knowledge/experience
• Git.
• MVC approach, ability to write modular code.
• Web development best practices.

Bonus skills

Proficiency in any of the following related skills are also desirable but not essential:

• Seo/webmaster
• Graphic design
• UI/UX design and optimisation
• Conversion rate optimisation
• Landing page design
• Social media management and engagement
• Copywriting

The ideal person keeps up to date with the latest developments in WordPress, PHP and JavaScript and has an online coding profile of some sort.

Compensation and Hours:

This is a long term position so we are looking for the right person who is committed to growing with our business and playing a key role in associated projects. We are looking for someone who will be with us in years to come and thrives on a quick moving environment creating killer code and awesome apps. However, a key part of the role does involve handling support queries and technical bugs so you must also be able to effectively cope with the occasional “difficult” customer.
