Job Responsibilities
HCC coders help hospitals and other healthcare facilities track patient information in order to send correct bills and maintain accurate records.
Job Requirements
CPC certification (preferred), CCS, CCS-P, and RHIT credentials are acceptable.
Three or more years of coding experience and demonstrated knowledge of CMS rules regulations and current coding resources, including EM, CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS, fee schedule and hierarchical condition categories (HCCs).
Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to resolve complex coding issues and perform root cause analysis.
Demonstrated ability to identify coding trends and risk areas. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and willingness to be flexible depending upon department and/or provider schedule needs.
Proven audit skills and the ability to interpret and apply Federal and State regulations, coding and billing requirements.
Ability to provide feedback constructively and with sensitivity.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills used to share audit findings, risk areas and compliance issues with providers, Compliance Auditors and medical center and/or regional leadership.
Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of provider, patient, patient account, and personnel data.
