How do we measure success for an SEO Manager?
#1 Client Health
How to measure it?
Looking at our weekly report, we count the percentage of clients that are trending UP (in terms of website traffic from Google and Google search rankings) out of the total number of clients in the report.
This percentage should be as high as possible, at least 80% to "pass" this KPI.
Why is it important?
Our services are intended to create value for our clients. If this does not happen, our clients will cancel services. We need to ensure client projects are improving consistently.
If client health is low, it means we're doing something wrong: we may be inefficient in how we do something, we may be using the wrong strategy for our client, or any number of other things.
Low health is usually a symptom of something else going wrong in our operations.
Any client with low health requires further follow up and investigation to turn things around.
#2 Dollars of Cost Savings Per Month
How to measure it?
Use the master deliverable list to track differences between current costs and preferred costs
We would look at the difference between our real costs in the previous month compared to proposed cost savings if we did all the same work again under the adjusted / proposed cost saving idea.
The only condition to this is that it must be work we do either every month, or when onboarding clients.
(Designed to exclude one-off work)
Why is it important?
We can create more value for clients and increase the company's profit by becoming more efficient at producing deliverables.
Whether that means reducing the amount of time it takes to complete a task, or reducing the pay-grade necessary to complete that task, everybody wins either way.
