Online Magazine Writer

Position Responsibilities:

Your job is to carry out research and write the content for our monthly membership club for our online subscribers.

The key tasks is to work out the topics for the month and gather the stories and write useful and interesting articles that meets our subscriber needs.

Specific job responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Monitor content feed from magazine companies and select relevant and interesting content; must be able to develop a short story from the content and submit for use on the client’s editorial sections.
• Assemble related story lists and post them to newly created stories.
• Build related content for topic pages.
• Rewrite copy from newscasts to be posted in a staging area in AP Style.
• Rewrite copy from newscasts to be posted in a staging area not in AP Style.
• Create and post breaking news live streams off-hours when the site is not staffed.
• Post breaking news to stations sites when the station is not staffed.
• Create quizzes around station-affiliated TV programs or events as requested by product manager or station.
• Add maps to stories when there is a geographic element.
• Seed user comments at the stations direction.
• Monitor U-local content and associate relevant content to stories when appropriate.

Position Requirements:

• College Degree required in the area of Journalism or equivalent.
• Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal.
• At least 1 year work-related online content experience, ideally with a news or magazine website is a plus.
• Must have 1 year solid experience in news writing (online/print).
• The ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong computer skills including MS word and excel and are required.
