NATURE OF THE WORK
You'll take the transcript of the audio interview, and do the following to it;
- Thematic Edit: group like parts of the interview together under sub-headings that you’ll create
- Transform the Thematic Edit into a narrative, keeping the most expressive parts of the interviewee's words, and wherever possible NOT re-writing his words.
- The aim is that in the finished narrative piece, I’ll be able to 'hear' the particular subject speaking on paper, using his vocabulary, syntax and tone.
- Sometimes I’ll give you, say 5 separate interviews with the same person to write up as a narrative
- Sometimes I’ll give you, say 5 interviews with different people to write up as a narrative
-This is not an exercise in fantasy writing, but is rooted in adapting an interview into a narrative. Having said that, there is huge scope for creative input and exercise of your literary judgement.

ASSESSMENT TASK
To help me determine if you have the special skills I need, I ask you to complete a short test for me, to show you have the particular skill needed to distill a transcript into a narrative, without losing the essence of the interviewee's voice.
I will provide you with a transcript, in Word .docx, of an interview that I've conducted, in Q+A format. By definition it will be rambling, disjointed, and not follow a strict chronological order.
The assessment task has two parts;
1. Thematic Edit: edit the transcript so that similar concepts are grouped together, creating sub-headings as you go along.
2.Write up your Thematic Edit as a flowing narrative, broken up into paragraphs that read beautifully and—most importantly— that captures the voice, tone & language of the subject.
I’ll give you 4 hours to complete the assessment, so we’d have to agree on a start time and a finish time. If you don’t send me your completed work by the end of 4 hours, then you’ve failed the assessment. I’m only interested to see what you can produce in that period, and of course I’m aware that your output will be a bit rough and incomplete, but I want to see what you’re capable of writing for me.
I’ll provide an example of a completed narrative to guide you as to what I
